PITTSBURGH - Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato will pour shots, not take them, to placate a restaurateur upset with the county's new 10-percent drink tax.
Onorato will tend bar at Mitchell's Restaurant, Bar and Banquet Center on Feb. 1 and donate his tips to the Western Pennsylvania Police Athletic League

Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato is swimming in hot water right now, but we admire him for taking a public stand on consolidation.
Onorato last week kicked off his second term at the helm of the most powerful elected office in western Pennsylvania by vowing to make government consolidation – including mergers of some municipal police departments – a top priority over the next four years.

Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato yesterday launched his second term as the county's highest elected official yesterday. So what's his next move?
He's heading to the other side of the state.
Mr. Onorato this week will be in Philadelphia for the inauguration of another rising Pennsylvania politico, Michael Nutter, the new mayor of the state's largest city. It's yet another example of Mr. Onorato raising his statewide profile (even though he hasn't said he wants to run for governor).
Mr. Onorato said he and Mr. Nutter already have held four meetings to discuss common interests between the state's two major population areas, such as funding for mass transit and social services.
"We're doing this throughout the state, building a very powerful political voice in Harrisburg and Washington, D.C., on the common issues we're all trying to address," Mr. Onorato said yesterday.
And if that happens to lead others to suggest he might be a good statewide candidate...

In less than a decade, Dan Onorato has transformed from a Pittsburgh councilman battling noise in the North Side into a seasoned politician some call the third most powerful elected leader in the state.
His tenure as chief executive of Allegheny County -- which starts a second four-year term today -- has encountered obstacles, from a cash-strapped Port Authority, budget deficits and property assessment headaches to a controversial drink tax, a sometimes-lackluster economy, and US Airways' gradual migration out of Pittsburgh International Airport.
